1966, Hans and Gretl Britsch emigrated from Switzerland to California
to open a nursery specializing in cacti and succulents. In the beginning,
Hans personally delivered all plants from store to store in his Volkswagen
van. Soon the business expanded. In the 1970's the overseas bear root
market dominated the sales. In the 1980's and 90's, the sales focus
shifted back to the domestic market. Today, approximately 75% of sales
are domestic and 25% are international. More recently, Western Cactus
has completed numerous shipments to China, Korea and Honk Kong.
Although
Western Cactus has grown extensively, our commitment to quality
and personalized service remains unchanged. Son, Thomas Britsch,
who joined the business in 1988, has carried on this tradition.
Along with manager, Ed DeLollis, and office manager, Lisa Adams,
all employees at Western Cactus remain committed to providing all
our customers with the highest quality cactus and succulent products
